When did you first become interested in medicine?
I first became interested in medicine when I visited a rural clinic that my grandmother helped to found in Bangladesh. My grandmother wanted to be a physician, but due to family obligations she was unable to do so. When she grew older, she solicited funds and helped establish a health center in her home community. This was my first exposure to medicine.
Why did you decide to become a family physician?
I wanted to practice medicine in the community, to help people learn how to make the little changes in life and health that can make such a big difference. I also like taking care of families and generations, and didn’t want to limit my scope of practice to one area. I enjoy the all-encompassing aspect of Family Medicine.
If you wouldn’t have become a family physician, what do you think you would be doing?
Dictator of a small nation - just kidding! If they would have me, I think I would enjoy working for The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) or The World Health Organization (WHO). Bringing resources to underserved areas is of particular interest to me.
Is there a particular topic in medicine that you are especially interested in? If so, why?
I love it all, (just like my husband), most of the time.
What is your favorite thing about being a family physician?
I like playing a part in other people’s health and well—being. The interaction with patients and the sharing of knowledge is an enjoyable part of the job.
Are you involved in any community organizations that you feel passionate about?
I have 3 kids, one with special needs that keeps me very busy. However, we do participate as a family in community events to help raise funds and awareness of various health issues.
What is your favorite pastime or hobby?
I enjoy running, group fitness (boot camp), hiking, reading, and spending time with my family.
I just wanted to give you a big THANK YOU for going above and beyond yesterday. I really appreciated your efforts to see me yesterday morning at 7:30, your assistance in getting quick insurance approval, quick diagnosis from office visit and test results, plus probably many things you did that I am not aware.
It is great comfort to know that I have a doctor and staff that cares for their patients and puts in the extra effort to provide great service.
My surgery went well yesterday and I just got home from the hospital. I'm a little sore, but feel much better than I did yesterday before surgery.
